Pay-Whats are up...

...over here. This week they even include a little bit of news. (Which most of you know about by now. Tboy loves that his readership is all in-the-know and everything. He has to explain everything to the average CP reader, but over here he can use shorthand.)

Oh, right, the news, if somehow you haven't heard: Josh Lefkowitz is back in town, doing 8 perfs of Help Wanted in the Woolly Mammoth rehearsal hall, starting tonight. 

If'n you missed it at Capital Fringe, go see it: It was one of Tboy's favorites.

And not just because of the whole ambiguously gay subplot. Which just seems like a tease now.

So, while Tboy was away ...

... LuckySpinster got into the MacDowell Colony.  That's kinda fun.

Though honestly: She thinks she wants to live without a Web connection for a month. But Tboy predicts hives.  Also, potentially, the shakes.

Still, if anybody's gonna come away from a weekend in the country (or four) with 7.2 plays, it'll be Kimball.  Five days and counting: Everybody wave bye now, and blow kisses.

Strettttch. Yawn.

That's Tboy, waking up from his figurative nap.

Actually he was away last week, at a conference in Miami. Which means he's missed a bit of news. On which he'll catch up in a minute.  For now, he's glad to be back in D.C., where the weather actually feels like September.

John Lahr On Stage Fright

Tboy, as you all know, thinks copyright infringement is a serious matter.  So while he thinks publishers who refuse to find ways to make their content available online are huge honking morons who apparently think the world will, in fact, one day spin backward, he also thinks it's shocking, positively shocking that someone has LiveJournaled an unauthorized copy of John Lahr's excellent New Yorker article on stage fright. 

As Tboy's friend Sasha Anawalt at USC Annenberg sez, the essay "is a great piece for reminding critics how much risk actors take on stage." 

So he hopes that your ability to read it for free online won't stop you from buying a copy of the Aug. 28 issue.

Beating the Dead Critic

While we're on the subject of how theater critics do their jobs:

• A D.C. actor/director takes Tboy to task for an offhand remark in that post on the Toby Zinman drama up in Philly, and Tboy responds with his customary archness, which he hopes will not entirely obscure the seriousness of his argument.


• The Washington Theater Review's latest issue raises several of the charges y'all have leveled at the big dog on the local theater-criticism lot--in an interview with the man himself. Tboy finds the conversation intriguing, and he admits to a certain curiosity about what y'all  think.
