For a month or two, Tboy's been promising Spooky Action Theatre's Richard Henrich that he'd come tour the new multipurpose performance space Henrich has been working to put together in the basement of a 16th Street church. If nothing else, Tboy was interested to learn more about how a small company was working around some of the challenges he wrote about in the City Paper's coverage of the Source Theatre sale.
But Tboy has been busy, and also he procrastinates a bit. And now, this morning, this arrives in the inbox:
"After months of encouragement from church administrators, the Board of the Universalist National Memorial Church voted unexpectedly last night not to offer a lease to our theater. On review, the Board decided that, while the space is not currently in use, it will likely be needed for church functions in the near future.
"Thanks to all who supported and contributed to Spooky Action Theater's bid to create an exciting new performance venue in the church. The theater now returns to exploration for: Space, the Final Frontier.
"All the best,
"--Richard"
Which, Tboy supposes, illustrates that pretty much every approach has its risks and its drawbacks.
