Just discovered your site and enjoy your musings on theatre - reminds me I must get back to DC soon to take in Signature's works.
I think Ayckbourn's comments are well-intended, but too many of the examples used are hardly the stuff of Hollywood. Plus, thankfully, many of filmdom's stars traversing the boards have their roots on the stage.
Finally, I think stars' loyal fans are likely to love whatever their idol does, and if you can get them to experience something new - like theatre - isn't that a plus?
You can read my take on Ayckbourn at www.steveonbroadway.com. Cheers!
