From another gay actor -- one who's intimately connected with a question Tboy took up last week.
Greg Marzullo, founding company member at Synetic Theater (and now features editor at the Washington Blade), has weighed in over on the Blade blog about this little post.
So read that little post first, if'n you haven't, and then trickle on over and see what Greg has to say about it.
UPDATE, Monday 6 p.m.: Yet further thoughts, from Metro Weekly editor Sean Bugg, are over here. Heavens. Tboy had no idea this was gonna turn into such a to-do ...
This debate with BLADE policy has gone on in DC for as long as I can remember. Greg's posting pretty much sums up the standard BLADE response. I do understand the notion of a gay paper wanting to report on gay-centric performances, since, purportedly, we can get news and critical response to mainstream work in mainstream places. But, can't that gay paper provide its readers with information about and critical response to artistic work from its perspective? A play and a production doesn't need to have an overt gay presence to be of particular value to a gay audience. In fact, many times, a gay perspective on a play or production might reveal a crucial connection to a gay readership. Maybe even, imagine this, a gay perspective might actually reveal a crucial connection to a mainstream audience.
