Would you want to do Broadway or off-Broadway? Off-off?
And would you want the trip to be (a) budget, (b) middle-of-the-road, or (c) swank?
What I'm thinking:
1) An all-inclusive package, meaning you wouldn't have to organize transport or hotel or tickets, coordinated by a service that specializes in such things. (Tboy's not touching anybody's money.)
2) At least two shows, plus a backstage visit or talkback with performers, a director, or a playwright. Maybe a meetup, if it can be arranged, with a notable NYC theaterblogger. Not an earnest academic theater weekend, but not entirely a knees-up either.
3) A smallish group -- though I'm open to arguments about making it big enough to qualify for group discounts on tickets.
So, click away at the poll below, won't you? Be sure to indicate an opinion in both the "Focus" and "Feel" categories.
And please, if you have even the slightest interest in this kind of thing, do vote. I'm not gonna pursue the logistics unless there's decent interest.
I have been running these trips to NYC since 1990 when I founded The Ushers (www.ushers.us). We see 5 shows and a cabaret in a weekend with the cast meeting us after the shows. We stay 3 nights in a hotel, usually take a bus or train together and have three dinners together so we can discuss the shows we are seeing. I have openings for our April 20-23rd weekend theatre marathon-Curtains, 110 In The Shade, Moon For The Misbegotten, Legally Blonde and to end the trip on a bang-Spring Awakening. Email me at joel@ushers.us for more info. Trey, I'd be glad to give you info on hotels, ticket dealers and restaurants I use. Joel Markowitz
